About me as a homoeopath...I qualified as a homoeopath in 2005, with a first class BSc honours degree from the University of Westminster in Integrated Health: homoeopathy. I chose this course to train with as involved full time study, with the maximum time dedicated to homoeopathy in terms of practical clinic sessions, philosophy, remedy studies, and also provided training in medical subjects such as differential diagnosis, pathophysiology and the more common anatomy and physiology. Whilst I was there, I won the Nutricentre Prize for the Best Academic Achievement in Homoeopathy for 2 years running. The course is comprehensive and thorough, and I wholeheartedly recommend the course to anyone interested in training as a homoeopath! Since then I have become a Registered Member of the Society of Homoeopaths (this is what the 'RSHom' initials mean), and through them have undertaken a 3 year Continual Professional Development commitment to ensure that I develop my clinical practice more and more and continue with further training. Part of this commitment means that I work with regularly one to one with an experienced homoeopathic supervisor to improve my practice and understanding and I attend frequent seminars, lectures and study groups to update and deepen my understanding. At present I am finishing off a year long postgraduate diploma in Paediatric Homoeopathy to help me better develop my knowledge and experience in treating pregnancy, babies and young children. The wonderful thing about homoeopathy is that, as with all professions, there is always an opportunity to learn more and more about this fascinating and often miraculous subject. About my personal journey through life...I have a rather mixed career background as I tried to find my feet! I started with a BA degree in Economics and Politics (University of York) which took me into environmental economics and then marketing in the health sector (both NHS and private). However, marketing left me unfulfilled as I wanted to work more with people. As a result, joined the army as an officer in 1997. After 5 years in the regular army, with much of my career looking after soldiers' and their families' welfare, then moving on to teaching officers, I joined the TA to fund me through my studies as a homoeopath. I left the TA in my final year of homoeopathic study in order to focus fully on homoeopathy, which was fast becoming an all consuming passion! Through homoeopathy, which offers the opportunity to meet and care for people as well as teach individuals how to best take care of their own health, I feel I have found my vocation in life - and for this I am indebted to Samuel Hahnemann, who discovered homoeopathy in the 18th century. I am married and have a toddler, and live in Abingdon with my husband who is serving with the army. I am very interested in our connection to the natural world, and have been working as a shamanic practitioner for 8 years after developing my own personal practice in this area. Although I do not combine this practice with my homoeopathic practice directly, this interest allowed me to develop an undergraduate research project combining ancient ways of understanding medicinal substances with more orthodox methods of trialling medicines (see section on research) |
